Overview of FCRN

BIRTH of FCRN
This network was set up as a result of one of the workgroup that met in ETHNE’06 in Indonesia, where 350 leaders from around the world met to discuss the need to maintain the momentum in reaching ALL PEOPLES with the Gospel of our LORD.
FCRN’S FOCUS AREAS
The group decided to set up this network in order to work together in crisis / disaster situations in areas of the world with “little or no access to The Gospel” (UPGs).
MOVING FORWARD
As a result of this workgroup, a number of things were put in place to help FCRN move forward :
- Three Co-Chairs of FCRN :
- Betsy B.
- Kay Hiramine Jr.
- Beram K
- As our next phase in moving forward, FCRN will be contacting various UPG Networks in order to gauge the level of preparedness in responding strategically in a crisis situation. Where the network is open to “capacity building”, FCRN will arrange for a training for leaders of the network to increase their level of preparedness.
- Core Values of FCRN :
- Relief & Development in a Spirit of Excellence
- Partnerships (work with like minded agencies and networks)
- Respect for Local Leadership (work closely with local churches and leaders in every relief situation)
- Profile local churches, agencies and networks (rather than fly the FCRN flag, we want to fly the flags of the locals …who are there for the longerm)
- CPM focused (whilst our long term focus is CPM amongst UPGs, FCRN main role is the relief side ….and for the CPM, we wish to see that handed over to local leaders and churches, and UPG networks)
Response Mechanism
- Co-chairs initiate move in the event of a crisis/disaster to contact local / near local leaders, churches or UPG networks in the area where the crisis/disaster has happened
- The local leaders gather all relevant information, including contacting local churches in the area, NGOs, government bodies, etc. in order to find out what FCRN can do
- Within 72 hours (or as soon as possible), a representative from FCRN will arrive on the ground to meet with the local leaders and help put in place the logistical arrangements for aid (food, water, tents, medicine, etc.) and volunteers (medics, counsellors, etc.) coming in, and help set up a Field Oversight Team
- Have a comprehensive plan, working with GOs and NGOs, for relief for a period of about 6 months
- Gradually handover and transition work from relief – church planting
